Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough
Isaiah 58:6–8

 

“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed[a] go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Isaiah 58:6–8

And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. Matthew 9:15

And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. Matthew 6:16

However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:21 (NKJV)

So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty. Ezra 8:23

3. When You are Desperate for Revival and Evangelism

So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the LORD and fasted on that day and said there, “We have sinned against the LORD.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah. 1 Samuel 7:6

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh Joel 2:28a

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6

David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. 2 Samuel 12:16

4. When You Are Desperate to Conquer Mental and Emotional Problems

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness . . . And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God.

But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself. Daniel 1:8

7. When You Are Desperate for God to Use You

 Taste and see that the Lord is good. Psalm 34:8

 

God does not measure what goes in your mouth, but what comes out of your heart.
